The Turkish Towel - Why We Love Them So Much

The Turkish Towel - Why We Love Them So Much

It’s become the norm to see a range of Turkish towels on beaches, pool decks, parks, and of course Instagram feeds these days—and for good reason! They’re a summertime staple we can’t imagine setting off for the beach without.

What makes them so great?

Turkish towels are lightweight, fast-drying, stylish, and absorbent—the quadruple-threat of beach accessories. Made of Turkish cotton, these towels are highly absorbent due to the long fibers in the cotton and the thinness of the towel itself makes them fast-drying.

Our Laguna Beach Textile Co. Turkish beach towels come with an added bonus. One side is the traditional smooth Turkish cotton and the other is looped terry cloth. This makes them even more absorbing while still retaining their fast-drying skills. So, have your fun, towel off, and don’t be afraid to toss your towel in your beach bag at the end of the day.

Did you know?

There’s more to the Turkish towel than you may think. Here are a few fun facts about these poolside stars.

  • Turkish towels can go by a few different names, so keep your eyes peeled for pieces referred to as peshtemals, foutas, pestemals, or hammams.
  • A real, authentic Turkish towel is made from real, authentic Turkish cotton. Lower quality pieces may use the name but it needs to be made from 100% Turkish cotton to claim the true fame.
  • The Turkish towel is considered to be the first towel ever made. Dating back to the 17th century in Bursa, Turkey, the towels were thinner than the modern versions and were used in Turkish baths.

How to use the Turkish towel

There are dozens of ways to use this versatile towel. Because they’re easy to pack, they’re great for traveling and make any trip to the beach, pool, or park that much better. Ours are oversized, so give you extra room for lounging.

They can also be used as beach wraps, blankets, throws, or even shower towels. We have on good authority that they make fantastic fort roofs as well. But don’t just take our word for it. Give them a go yourself!
