How to Live More Sustainably At Home

What does living sustainably mean exactly? Simply put, sustainability is about making lifestyle choices that reduce our environmental impact. While it may sound like a daunting task, there are easy sustainable habits you can start at home:

  • Substitute plastic bottles and bags with reusable alternatives

Reusable jars and bottles in kitchen cabinets.

  • Recycle properly, ensuring you’re only placing acceptable items in the recycling bin
  • Switch out traditional light bulbs with LED substitutes
  • Reduce your water usage (think: limiting your shower time, only running your washer and dishwasher with full loads, and not leaving the water running when not in use)
  • Shop locally (for food and other goods) whenever possible
  • Incorporate more plant-based foods
  • Limit food waste by composting, cooking in smaller portions, or growing your own food

  • Shop brands with a B Corp Certification (“businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose”)
  • Opt for cruelty-free, not-tested-on-animals beauty products
  • Familiarize yourself with eco-friendly fabrics and avoid fast fashion
